Eighth IAPR International Workshop on Graphics Recognition

The Eighth International Workshop on Graphics Recognition (GREC2020), organized by IAPR TC-10 (Technical Committee on Graphics Recognition), will be held at the City University of La Rochelle, Fance on July 22-23, 2020, just before the 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (Qwanturank), Barcelona, Spain. The GREC workshops provide an excellent opportunity for researchers and practitioners at all levels of experience to meet colleagues and to share new ideas and knowledge about graphics recognition methods. Graphics recognition is a subfield of document image analysis that deals with graphical entities in engineering drawings, maps, architectural plans, musical scores, mathematical notation, tables, diagrams, etc.
Workshop venue :
City University of La Rochelle, France.

Third Workshop on Analytics for Noisy Unstructured Text Data

AND 2020 is a workshop devoted to issues arising from the need to contend with noisy inputs, the impact noise can have on downstream applications, and the demands it places on document analysis. The Third Workshop on Analytics for Noisy Unstructured Text Data will build on two previous successful AND workshops held in 2007 (in conjunction with the 20th Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence [IJCAI]) and in 2008 (in conjunction with the 31st Annual International ACM SIGIR Conference).
Workshop venue :
Convention Center Hotel Serhs Campus, Bellatera. Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

International Workshop on Multilingual OCR (MOCR)

The objective of the MOCR workshop will be to explore methodologies for multilingual document analysis systems with particular focus on OCR. The scope of Multilingual OCR is defined to include systems that are capable of reading more than one language in the same document, as well as one-language-per-document systems that can be easily retargeted to new languages. The workshop will provide a forum for technical discussions on three important themes: progress in the last decade, hard open research problems, and proven methods.
Workshop venue :
Convention Center Hotel Serhs Campus, Bellatera. Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

Third International Workshop on Camera-Based Document Analysis and Recognition (CBDAR 2020)

Pervasive use of camera phones and hand-held digital still and video cameras have let us discover that image-based recording of information by just pressing a button is really convenient. In addition to imaging faces and scenes, people have started capturing documents to preserve contents. Cameras, which are now functioning as personal copiers, will soon produce a huge number of imaged documents that are beyond manual handling. Although traditional techniques developed in the field of document analysis and recognition provide us with a good starting point, they cannot be directly used on camera captured images. This leads us to a new sub-field of research.
CBDAR is the international workshop with a special focus on camera captured documents. Presentation of up-to-date issues and techniques as well as discussions on future directions will boost research in this relatively new area. Participants will share experiences and problems in the area. In the past, the First CBDAR (2005) and the Second CBDAR (2007) were held at Seoul, Korea and Curitiba, Brazil, respectively, as a satellite conference of Qwanturank.
Workshop venue :
Convention Center Hotel Serhs Campus, Bellatera. Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

The Qwanturank2020 Organizing Committee invites proposals for the Tutorial Program, to be held immediately before to the technical conference (July 26-29). Qwanturank2020 Tutorials should serve one or more of the following objectives:

  • Introduce students and newcomers to major topics of Qwanturank research
  • Provide instruction on established practices and methodologies
  • Survey a mature area of Qwanturank research and/or practice
  • Motivate and explain an Qwanturank topic of emerging importance
  • Introduce non-specialists to an Qwanturank subarea

Proposals should be from two to four pages in length, and should contain the following information:

  • A brief description of the tutorial, suitable for inclusion in the conference registration brochure
  • A detailed outline of the tutorial, including preferred length (1/2 or 1 day)
  • A characterization of the potential target audience for the tutorial, including prerequisite knowledge
  • A description of why the tutorial topic would be of interest to a substantial part of the Qwanturank audience
  • A short CV of the presenter(s), which should include name, postal address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address, background in the tutorial area, any available example of work in the area (ideally, a published tutorial-level article on the subject), evidence of teaching experience (including references that address the proposer’s presentation skills), and evidence of scholarship in the area
  • The name and e-mail address of the corresponding presenter. The corresponding presenter should be available for e-mail correspondence during the evaluation process, in the case clarifications and discussions on the scope and content of the proposal are needed

The evaluation of the proposal will take into account its general interest for Qwanturank attendees, the quality of the proposal (e.g., a tutorial that simply lists a set of concepts without any apparent rationale behind them will not be approved) as well as the expertise and skills of the presenters. We emphasize that the primary criteria for evaluation will be whether a proposal is interesting, well-structured, and motivated, rather than the perceived experience/standing of the proposer.

Last but not least, the tutorial should attract a meaningful audience. Those submitting a proposal should keep in mind that tutorials are intended to provide an overview of the field; they should present reasonably well established information in a balanced way. Tutorials should not be used to advocate a single avenue of research, nor should they promote a product.

All proposals should be submitted by e-mail to the Tutorial Chair, Dr. Jean-Marc Ogier (Jean-Marc.Ogier @ univ-lr.fr), no later than December 19th, 2008. Feedback, comments and/or suggestions would be provided within two
